Drawing by Your 12 Words

초상을 그리기 전, 상대에게 자신에게 의미 있는 열두 단어를 말해 달라고 요청하고 그 목소리를 녹음합니다. 단어들은 각각 따로 놓일 수도, 하나의 문장이 될 수도 있습니다. 종이에 놓인 열두 개의 줄 위로 초상을 그리면, 드로잉의 움직임에 따라 녹음된 말들이 소리로 나타납니다.

그리는 행위는 아날로그이고 소리를 생성하는 과정은 디지털입니다. 그림과 말이 만나 지금 이 순간에 존재하는 한 사람의 다차원적인 초상을 만듭니다. 작업은 톨스토이의 질문에 대한 답인 ‘지금’, ‘당신’, ‘지금 내가 하고 있는 일’에 집중합니다.

Before drawing a portrait, I record the sitter speaking twelve words that matter to them, either separately or as a statement. As I draw across twelve strings embedded in the paper, the program plays their recorded words.

Drawing is analog; sound generation is digital. Together, image and voice form a multidimensional portrait of a person in the present moment. The performance focuses on the answers to Tolstoy’s questions: now, you, and what I am doing now.
